In the early 1970’s he opened Ben Jones Farm and Ranch Service, where he designed, built and repaired farm equipment. In 1985 the Ranch service closed and was reborn as Gun Craft Inc. Ben’s passion was designing and creating custom firearms and firearm accessories for both novice and competition shooters, as well as big game hunters, He also designed, constructed and patented many firearms parts along the way. Ben was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who traveled the country and the world to hunt exotic game. Although he loved every form of hunting, his favorite type was African Safari hunting. As soon as you walk through the front door of Gun Craft and see his many mounts, souvenirs and photographs, you know right away that Ben loved hunting in Africa. He was an excellent storyteller, you could sit, mesmerized for hours and listen to his safari stories.

Gun Craft was founded by Ben and Kay Jones in 1981. It was founded on the premise of having a professional outdoor shooting range as well as offering custom gunsmithing, which included everything from customization of sporting rifles to competition shooting pistols. Ben and Kay operated and promoted their organization worldwide through national events and world competitions. Ben holds many patents and invented many modern pistol and rifle customizations that shooters still enjoy today.

In the early 80’s, they brought their daughter Kim, who was an accomplished machinist herself, on to help customize and fabricate many new parts and firearms. Kim also became an accomplished world class shooter in women’s competitions both in the U.S. and internationally. In the late 90’s, Kim left Gun Craft to pursue a career in law enforcement. At that time, Ben, Aubrey Almond and Dave Smith continued the traditions of fabricating quality parts and firearm customizations. Dave Smith has been our master gunsmith for 33 years and continues to be our top gunsmith to this day.
